Today seemed like a good day to start with an inventory listing of property from MI Homes. These properties are usually built but a home builder to show a new customer what they can request in their new house. MI Homes does build a good property so I thought I?d send this out so everyone can take a look.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Vice President Joe Biden says he's confident the Supreme Court will uphold the constitutionality of the health care law.

Biden says in an interview taped for CBS's "Face the Nation" that "we think the mandate and the law are constitutional and we think the court will rule that way."

Asked about the chances it would be overturned, he replies, "I don't believe it will happen." Biden says "I think we should focus on what is the law doing for people now and what would happen if Republicans should repeal it."

Biden has started taking on a greater role in arguing President Barack Obama's case for re-election, making an appearance on his behalf in the Midwest earlier this week. Excerpts of his Sunday interview were aired Friday on "CBS This Morning."

Google Drive leaks suggest 5GB free storage, in-app document editing

Mountain View has been leaking Google Drive details like a glacial trickle, but we still have no firm notion of how much free cloud storage it'll bring or just how deeply it'll be integrated with other services. There have been rumors of a Dropbox-like 2GB limit, but now a screenshot purporting to show the beta version's main welcome page points to a healthy 5GB instead. Moreover, Google's Support portal mentions that the Drive app for Android will have document-editing capabilities, which brings us back to the question of whether this is a whole new service, or an add-on to Google Docs or indeed a complete re-branding of Google's documents platform. Regardless, calling it 'Drive' still makes it sound like sat nav.

NEW YORK (AP) ? While Dominique Strauss-Kahn faces fresh charges in his native France amid a prostitution investigation, a judge in New York may decide Wednesday whether to allow a civil case accusing him of sexually assaulting a hotel maid to go forward.

The 62-year-old former chief of the International Monetary Fund was charged last year with attempted rape and other crimes after the May 14 encounter with hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo, but the criminal case was dropped after prosecutors lost faith in her credibility.

Still, she vowed to have her day in court, and sued Strauss-Kahn. She maintains he attacked her when she came to clean his luxury suite at the Sofitel Hotel.

The first hearing in the civil case was scheduled for the afternoon in the Bronx. Neither the 33-year-old woman nor Strauss-Kahn is expected to attend.

The proceeding is likely to deal with complex laws that shield diplomats from prosecution and lawsuits in their host countries. Strauss-Kahn's lawyers have argued the onetime French presidential candidate is immune under a 1947 U.N. agreement that afforded the privilege to heads of "specialized agencies," including the International Monetary Fund. Strauss-Kahn was carrying a travel document at the time that said he was entitled to those immunities, his lawyers say.

Diallo's attorneys say the argument is overreaching and misses the mark.

When police pulled him from an Air France flight and arrested him, Strauss-Kahn also declared he had diplomatic immunity, but the IMF said he didn't because he was in New York on personal business ? visiting his daughter. He didn't push the issue amid the criminal case that eventually dissolved in August.

Since then, Strauss-Kahn has seen his sexual behavior scrutinized internationally. On Monday, he was handed preliminary charges in France alleging he was involved in a hotel prostitution ring including prominent city figures and police in Lille.

Investigating judges questioned him for about eight hours and gave him preliminary charges of "aggravated procurement in an organized gang." Under French law, preliminary charges mean authorities have reason to believe a crime was committed but allow more time for investigation.

A judge has barred him from speaking with media until further investigation.

His French lawyer said the married, Strauss-Kahn engaged in "libertine" acts but did nothing legally wrong, and is being unfairly targeted for his extramarital sex life. He's free on bail.

After the New York case, a French writer also came forward to say Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her during a 2003 interview, but Paris prosecutors said the case was too old to try.

The Associated Press generally doesn't name people who report being sexually assaulted unless they come forward publicly, as Diallo has done.

The Right Amount of Waste ? The Business Ethics Blog

A recent story in the NY Times provides some encouraging anecdotes about companies that are moving to take greater responsibility for recycling. Companies like Starbucks and Coca-Cola, for instance, are finding new ? and in some cases profitable ? ways to take responsibility for the waste that their product packaging generally becomes. More recycling generally means less waste, less energy used, and less pollution.

Waste and pollution are business-ethics topics about which there is some room for agreement between the moralist and the economist. The moralist points out that it?s unfair to make innocent bystanders suffer the ill effects of your factory?s pollution. The economist points out that market inefficiency can result when costs, financial or otherwise, are not internalized (i.e., when costs are instead imposed on innocent third parties).

But an economically-savvy point of view must also recognize that there is in fact a socially-efficient level of waste and pollution, and that that level is not zero. Waste and pollution could only be driven to zero by shutting down industry (of all kinds) altogether, and that would have disastrous effects. In other words, we would have to sacrifice things we care about, like the ability to raise world-wide standards of living, in order to reduce pollution and waste to zero.

Consider this analogy: economists likewise sometimes argue, rightly I think, that there is an efficient level of crime. The methods by which crime could be driven to zero are both enormously invasive and enormously costly. It is not efficient ? not a good use of resources ? to drive crime to zero, even if we think it technically possible.

So waste and pollution, we might say, are always bad, but not always wrong. They are features of a system the overall productivity of which is an enormous boon to humankind. It would be crazy to say that gains in productivity must be sought at any cost, but it is likewise crazy to value anything else (e.g., the environment) so highly that it drowns out all considerations of efficiency.

Now none of this tells us about whether particular efforts at waste reduction or pollution abatement are good or bad. But it helps frame the issue. What we?re looking for is the right level of pollution and waste, and that level is not zero. It is also likely to shift over time, as affluence grows and technology evolves, and as companies like Coke and Starbucks and a thousand anonymous start-ups find new ways to make environmental protection efficient, in the broadest, most ethically-significant sense of the word.

Inspiration + Action = Creation: It's never as bad as it seems inside ...

Today's cards are: Nine of Swords, Two of Rods, and the Sun! Yep, I put an exclamation point at the end of the Sun(!) because it's just that kind of card and something needs to be done about that Nine of Swords. ?That Nine of Swords squats inside your head and heart like a miasma. The worry you have doesn't help anything. It doesn't allow you to deal with the dramas and stresses of your life any better. In fact, it takes your focus away from being able to do what you need to do because you're too busy worrying about what you need to do to actually do it well. Here's a paraphrase of a quote that many have said better than I can. It is: "Worry doesn't solve tomorrow's problems; it saps today's joy." Truer words were never written (except perhaps 2+2=4). Really, that fear, that worry, that anxiety, they aren't at all helpful to you in getting anything accomplished. They just take energy away from you so you have less to devote to the very things you are worried about.

And here's the thing: the other two cards in today's draw? They are fabulous! The Two of Rods tells us that the world is ours. We can be bold. We can be original. We can grab life in our hands and fly. And the Sun gives us all the energy and childlike joy to do it.

So, whatever it is that has you worried, today, see if you can release it out into the universe. Stand outside and if it's at all breezy out there, let your anxiety blow away on the wind. Seriously, go outside. Take a break. Stand under the sun. Close your eyes. Take a minute away from all the other stuff going on around you. Whatever hectic pace everyone else has right now, doesn't have to impact you. Stand still and breathe deeply. Listen to the sounds around you. Let them flow over you. Notice and appreciate your feet on the ground. Feel the sun on your face. Come to a place of stillness, and the cares will dissipate.

Oh, you'll still have stuff to do. You'll still need to make plans and carry them out, but worry, that energy vampire, won't make you feel like you're crawling through molasses as you get it all done.

Can Health Food Stores Address Food Allergies?

At health food stores around the world health conscious consumers are complaining more regularly about food allergies with statements in the vein of, "I can't eat this" or "I can't eat that." Why do so many people, in particular shoppers at health food stores, presume that they have food allergies? You rarely, if ever, hear people say, "I'm allergic to coffee, wine or soft drinks", and yet these are items that many eat and drink frequently without a second thought. So, what's up with all these patrons at health food stores who insist they have food allergies?

Food allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to the effect produced by a protein molecule in the offending food. This can happen even to those who adhere to a stringent health food diet. The body is not able to break down that particular protein molecule, so it reacts by expelling the offending molecules as quickly as possible.

A chemical called 'histamine' is produced and symptoms appear in the form of rashes, hives, itching, wheezing, breathing difficulties, and mucus being expelled through the mouth, nose, lungs, and even sexual organs. More acute reactions from food allergies are dizziness, loss of consciousness, drop in blood pressure, vomiting, diarrhea and even death.

Intolerance to specific foods and food allergies are often misdiagnosed by customers searching for solutions at health food stores. With food intolerances resembling lactose intolerance, where the digestive system has problems breaking down the sugar in the milk, the symptoms are much milder. One could experience gas and bloating or diarrhea and cramping. Despite the fact that food intolerance is disagreeable, it is not typically life threatening like food allergies can be in some severe cases. The conventional distresses are intolerances to dairy, gluten, soy and nuts, and all too often anything that shoppers at health food stores deem is too expensive.

The real question people should ask at health food stores is not, "What foods am I allergic to?" But rather, "Why is my immune system adversely effected by food, especially items usually thought of as health food?"

When determining particular food allergies and intolerances, some factors to examine are: What is the trigger food? When is the trigger food being eaten? Is the trigger food being improperly combined with other foods like grains, meats or dairy products? Merely studying labels at health food stores is not necessarily a great way to proceed.

It can be rather exhaustive to hunt down the offending trigger food and how it is being consumed. In fact, most experts on food allergies will advise keeping a chronicle of everything you consume, and when the trigger food is figured out then just pass up eating it. While that sounds easy, if you react to various things including those featured in health food stores, it's not so uncomplicated. Of course, you can attempt to eliminate the most widespread triggers to food allergies like wheat (gluten), peanuts, dairy, corn and eggs, but if that doesn't work, then what?

The truth is that the immune system can be motivated to overreact by many substances. The ideal method to deal with food allergies is to bolster the immune system while balancing all the systems of the body equally. Uncover specific health food products that feed the 5 key systems of the body synergistically: immune, endocrine, digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems. Shopping at online health food stores rather than typical health food stores for advanced formulas will deliver better results.

HP combines printer, PC units in turnaround effort

NEW YORK (AP) ? Hewlett-Packard Co. is combining its printer and PC divisions as it tries to overcome sluggish earnings, growing competition and the absence of a focused identity.

The move announced Wednesday will help the company streamline its business and save money to invest in growing areas. HP also hopes the restructuring will boost innovation.

The change comes as sales of printers and ink, once HP's lifeblood, are falling because people are sharing more documents and photos online instead of printing them.

Charges filed against Chevron execs in Brazil

SAO PAULO (AP) ? Federal prosecutors filed criminal charges against 17 Chevron and Transocean company executives on Wednesday for an oil leak in the Atlantic, a move deemed outrageous by those targeted but applauded by environmentalists.

Prosecutors accused the executives of environmental crimes, misleading Brazil's oil regulator about safety plans and not providing accurate information in the wake of the spill.

At least 110,000 gallons of oil seeped through cracks in the ocean floor near a Chevron Corp. appraisal well off the Rio de Janeiro coast in November. The well drilled by Transocean Ltd. has since been sealed, but a small amount of seepage has reappeared, raising concerns that the damage is not over.

Court weighs US power over states in health case

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Congress will help pay for your roads, but your state can't lower its drinking age below 21. There's federal money for colleges, but they can't discriminate against women in the classroom or on the athletic field.

Federal cash comes with strings. Now 26 states are telling the Supreme Court that President Barack Obama's health care law has stretched an old rule too far. The new law's requirements for expanding Medicaid amount, in their view, to coercion that violates the Constitution's division of power between the federal government and the states.

No lower court has sided with the state plaintiffs. But the justices have reserved time next Wednesday to hear the Medicaid issue as part of their broad review of challenges to the national health care overhaul. And their decision could have implications far beyond health ? for federal aid for housing, law enforcement, education and transportation.

US home re-sales complete best winter in 5 years

WASHINGTON (AP) ? U.S. home sales are gradually coming back. A mild winter and a stronger job market have helped boost sales ahead of the crucial spring buying season.

The past two months made up the best winter for sales of previously occupied homes in five years, when the housing crisis began. And the sales pace in January was the highest since May 2010, the last month that buyers could qualify for a federal home-buying tax credit.

February sales dipped only slightly to a seasonally adjusted 4.59 million, the National Association of Realtors said Wednesday. That's 13 percent higher than the sales pace last July and just below the revised 4.63 million in January.

Bernanke says US banks could withstand euro shocks

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told a congressional panel Wednesday that U.S. banks could withstand shocks from Europe, even if the debt crisis there significantly worsened.

The U.S. banking system remains exposed to Europe, but stress tests conducted by the Fed found most banks could weather a severe recession triggered by the debt crisis, Bernanke told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The Fed looked at how the 19 largest U.S. bank holding companies would handle a severe recession that drove the unemployment rate to 13 percent and cut stock prices 50 percent. The stress tests found all but four were strong enough to survive.

Obama, GOP vie for upper hand on energy

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) ? Wooing a nation of increasingly angry motorists, President Barack Obama and his Republican rivals are all plunging into gas-pump politics, seeking the upper hand as energy becomes a driving issue in the election campaign.

The president defended his energy agenda this week. He traveled on Wednesday to a solar panel plant in Nevada, then to oil and gas fields in New Mexico and the site of a future oil pipeline in Oklahoma that the White House is promising to accelerate. At the same time GOP opponents from presidential candidate Mitt Romney on down are vigorously accusing him of stifling domestic production and betting on risky alternative energy methods over traditional oil drilling.

With gasoline reaching a national average of $3.86 a gallon and apparently heading higher, many are growing impatient for Obama ? or perhaps someone else ? to do something about it.

Hartford Financial exiting annuity business

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) ? Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. is exiting the annuity business so it can focus on property and casualty insurance, group benefits and mutual funds.

The company said Wednesday that it is also looking to sell or pursue other options for its individual life, retirement plans and broker-dealer Woodbury Financial Services. It will continue to seek new business for them in the meantime.

Christopher Swift, executive vice president and chief financial officer, said in a statement that the individual life, Woodbury Financial Services and retirement plans "will be better positioned for success as part of other organizations."

Discover 1Q profit jumps 36 percent as card use rises

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Discover Financial Services on Wednesday said its profit jumped 36 percent in its fiscal first quarter, as use of its namesake credit card increased and customers' payment habits improved.

The Riverwoods, Ill., company reported that its net income climbed to $624 million, or $1.18 a share, in the three months ended Feb. 29. That compares with net income of $459 million, or 84 cents a share, in the prior-year quarter.

Revenue rose to $1.84 billion, up from $1.73 billion a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet expected a profit of 94 cents a share on total revenue of about $1.84 billion.

Kraft Foods to rename snacks company Mondelez

NORTHFIELD, Ill. (AP) ? Kraft Foods Inc. announced Wednesday that its new global snacks company will be named Mondelez International Inc.

Mondelez was inspired by the suggestions of two Kraft employees. It is intended to evoke the idea of a "delicious world" as "monde" is derived from the Latin word for "world" and "delez" as an expression of "delicious."

Kraft announced in August that it will split its business in two by the end of the year.

In other energy trading, heating oil fell 2 cents to finish at $3.22 per gallon. Gasoline futures lost less than a penny to end at $3.36 per gallon. Natural gas rose 2.5 cents to finish at $2.36 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Senate set for key vote on insider trading ban

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A key Senate vote is set on a scaled-down bill to explicitly prohibit members of Congress and other federal workers from profiting from information learned on the job.

The procedural vote Thursday is the last hurdle to final congressional action on the legislation, which also would require affected officials to file public reports online within 45 days of their new financial transactions.

Both the House and Senate overwhelmingly have approved separate versions of the STOCK Act, which stands for Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge. A segment on CBS' "60 Minutes" in November said members of Congress were profiting from inside information.

Lacking enough votes, Majority Leader Harry Reid abandoned the Senate's own, stronger bill and decided to accept the House legislation, which stripped out two key provisions from the Senate-passed bill.

One would have required registration and public reports ? similar to those filed by lobbyists ? by anyone selling inside information learned from members of Congress and their staffs.

The second was designed to strengthen criminal laws in public corruption cases, raise maximum penalties and restore tools used by prosecutors that were limited by the Supreme Court.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said Wednesday that he was casting a protest vote against the procedural motion. The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee was the chief backer of regulating those selling information learned from congressional contacts.

"My vote will protest the fact that the majority leader took political intelligence disclosure completely off the table," Grassley said. "The process shuts down any chance of trying to restore the provision. This is despite my willingness to modify the provision to meet concerns."

Opponents of Grassley's provision substituted a study to learn more about individuals and firms collecting so-called political intelligence.

Reid's procedural motion would limit debate and allow the Senate to vote on the insider trading ban. The motion requires a super majority of 60 votes in the 100-member Senate, but passage ensures approval of the bill. President Barack Obama said he would sign the legislation.

Under the House legislation, new financial transactions by members of Congress, top-level congressional employees and thousands of other government workers would have to be filed publicly online within 30 or 45 days ? depending on when the officials received official notice of the transactions. This would be in addition to the annual public reports now filed.

Congress' approval ratings remain near all-time lows, according to recent polls. In a Gallup survey released Wednesday, just 12 percent said they approved of the legislative body. The most recent congressional approval rating in an AP-GfK survey was 19 percent in mid-February.

Discovery offers insight into treating viral stomach flu

ScienceDaily (Mar. 21, 2012) ? Twenty million Americans get sick from norovirus each year according to data released last week by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Often called vomiting illness, it can spread rapidly on cruise ships, and in dormitories and hospitals. Recent data from the CDC shows deaths from gastrointestinal infections have more than doubled and have become a particular threat to the elderly. The virus is shed in the stool of the infected individual, has a short incubation period and can spread quickly if proper hand washing and other measures are neglected.

While researchers say that vaccines for intestinal infections are among the most difficult to develop, a recent discovery may provide the critical information needed for success. "Sometimes atomic structure gives us clues on how viruses work and how to make better vaccines," said Dr. Thomas Smith, principal investigator, at The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center whose recent article, Structural Basis for Broad Detection of Genogroup II Noroviruses by a Monoclonal Antibody That Binds to a Site Occluded in the Viral Particle, in the Journal of Virology was selected by the editors as an, "Article of Significant Interest, sighting the extreme norovirus flexibility suggested by these results may allow for broad antibody recognition, a finding of potential vaccine significance."

Smith was part of a team of scientists lead by Dr. Peter D. Kwong, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health (NIH). Their research demonstrated that the virus has a structure unlike that of other viruses in that is has protein "lollipop" like structures that likely gives it more flexibility in attaching to cells. There are four genera of this virus family, the Caliciviruses, with the Sapoviruses and Noroviruses being the major cause of severe gastroenteritis in humans.

Dr. Smith and his colleagues discovered that because of the "lollipop" structure, antibodies against the norovirus may be able to bind to the more conserved underside of this floppy structure. This suggests that the extreme flexibility of the norovirus particle may allow for antibody recognition of protected surfaces that might otherwise be buried on intact particles.

This information will give researchers more insight on how to manipulate complex viruses as well as to design and develop better drugs to treat the maladies they cause. Rotovirus, a member of a different viral family but also causes severe gastro intestinal distress primarily in children, is being well controlled by the recent development of a vaccine.

Analysis: Agrium emerges as a quiet winner in Viterra deal

TORONTO (Reuters) - Glencore International PLC's C$6.1 billion bid for Viterra Inc marks a quiet victory Agrium Inc , enabling the Canadian agricultural concern to slip away of some of the blockbuster deal's spoils at an attractive price.

In a side deal with the Swiss-based commodities trader, Agrium will pay about a total of C$1.65 billion for most of Viterra's farm products retail stores and related assets.

The stores will fill a big gap in Agrium's already-vast chain of retail outlets and enable it to move closer to an earnings target for the business that it has long aspired to achieve.

Calgary, Alberta-based Agrium is the largest North American retailer of farm products such as pesticides, fertilizers and seeds, but the company has a small retail presence in the Canadian prairies, an area in which Viterra is strong.

"This substantially increases their market share in Western Canada," said Morningstar analyst Jeffrey Stafford. "We think these are good assets, acquired at a fairly reasonable purchase price. All together a pretty good deal for Agrium as a whole."

Both the company and analysts are confident that competition authorities will approve the deal, given the large number of independent retail players in the region.

Agrium will acquire about 90 percent of Viterra's 258 Canadian retail facilities, as well as a minority position in a nitrogen-fertilizer plant located in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The plant is majority owned by U.S.-based CF Industries .

Agrium's retail presence in Australia also gets a boost. The Canadian company already owns the Landmark network of retail stores there through its A$1.2 billion ($1.26 billion) acquisition of AWB in 2010. A year after that deal Agrium sold AWB's grain-handling business to U.S.-based Cargill.

"We think this deal structure, where Agrium can acquire the farm stores without having to sell off the unwanted parts is far superior to the structure of the AWB deal, where they had to find a buyer for those assets," said Stafford.

EARNINGS BOOST

The Viterra-Glencore deal takes Agrium a big step closer toward its goal of achieving $1 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) from its retail business by 2015.

Agrium's retail business generated $769 million in EBITDA in 2011, or slightly less than 30 percent of its overall EBITDA. The vast majority of Agrium's profits are still generated by its wholesale fertilizer business.

Profit margins from the wholesale fertilizer business tend to be cyclical, reflecting variances in raw material costs and fertilizer demand. Retail, typically a lower margin business for Agrium, serves the company well because it holds up better against the vagaries of the agricultural cycle.

"This deal should allow us to get to the $1 billion target before 2015," said Bruce Waterman Agrium's head of international development in an interview with Reuters.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Joel Jackson estimates the deal will also boost Agrium's annual earnings by 70 cents to 90 cents a share.
