hi

EWM is a major sponsor of the first ever Gables EarthFest held April 22, 2012 from 12-5 pm in front of the Coral Gables City Hall located at 405 Biltmore Way, Coral Gables, Fl. Gables EarthFest is a grassroots event spearheaded by the Coral Gables Green Task Force to inform Gables residents about the alternatives for sustainable living in South Florida. There will be everything from organic foods to home improvement system to some of the latest hybrid and electric cars including a high performance Tesla.

Gables EarthFest is part of Sustainatopia (www.sustainatopia.com), which is one of the world?s largest events for social, financial and environmental sustainability. Over 15,000 people from more than 60 countries will be attending various Sustainatopia events throughout Greater Miami from April 19th- April 25th, 2012.

While green buildings are not common in South Florida, most experts predict they will become the standard for the next building cycle. In the near future consumers will need to look beyond location, schools, curb appeal and other traditional criteria used in their search for a home. Sustainable living can save money, time, natural resources and?result in better quality of life.

As consumers shop for new dwellings they will want to know the Efficiency Ratio of the air conditioning & water heating systems; the R-Value of the walls and roof. Buyers will not only want to know if the windows are impact resistant, but do they have Low-e glass or insulated glass and what is the U-factor. They will want to know if the appliances and/or the house is Energy Star rated. If a house is offered as a green home they will want to know how the seller determine it was a green home? Did they use a third party certification program ? which program and what rating did it receive? Energy efficient and green homes can save anywhere from 30-75% in the operating cost of a house or condo.

How will buyers be able to know the difference between rating systems used to identify these high performing dwellings and what will that mean to their pocketbook and your quality of life. We are beginning a new cycle of construction in South Florida that will bring new types of high efficiency dwellings and EWM wants to be there to help you find green / sustainable homes in sustainable neighborhoods that will save you money and provide you with great quality of life.
